Odegaard Strikes Late as Arsenal Beat Hull 1-0

Martin Odegaard broke Hull City's stubborn resistance with a 72nd-minute goal as Arsenal ground out a 1-0 win at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, moving six points clear at the top of the Premier League. The champions had struggled to create clear chances against a well-organised Hull side before their captain reacted quickest to a rebound, converting after goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis had saved from Noni Madueke. It was Odegaard's first goal since a run of four in five games between August and September, and it kept Arsenal's title defence firmly on track with nine wins from ten league matches.
Hull frustrate the champions
Hull defended resolutely for more than an hour and even threatened an opener of their own, with Elliot Stroud forcing a fine full-stretch save from David Raya in the first half. Arsenal lacked cutting edge before the break, Kai Havertz wasting a one-on-one chance and Christos Tzolis spurning opportunities of his own. The hosts were also controversially denied a penalty following a VAR check late in the first half, when Havertz was adjudged offside as his shirt was pulled by Nobel Mendy.
Six points clear — for now
The breakthrough finally came when Madueke tested Tzolakis and Odegaard dinked the rebound over the goalkeeper to settle a tense afternoon. Madueke missed a late chance to wrap up the win as he tried to round the goalkeeper, but Arsenal held on. The result extends their lead over Manchester City before Enzo Maresca's side face Nottingham Forest, with the Premier League now pausing for the international break and returning to action in two weeks.
