British Steel has opened applications for its 2027 apprentice and graduate intake, offering more than 40 places across its Scunthorpe, Teesside and Skinningrove sites. The announcement, published on 2 November, follows a year in which the company welcomed 70 new apprentices and graduates in September.

Apprenticeships on offer

The new apprentice roles start in early September 2027. Scunthorpe will take 12 electrical and 12 mechanical apprentices, while the Northern Mills at Teesside and Skinningrove will offer eight electrical and eight mechanical places. Apprentices combine hands-on work with fully funded training and nationally recognised qualifications, and the company says it aims to offer permanent jobs to those who complete the programme. Applicants need at least three GCSEs at grade 4 or C or above, including maths, English and science. Apprenticeship applications close on 8 March 2027.

Graduate roles and deadlines

Graduate places are open in manufacturing operations, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and materials engineering covering quality and process, with more roles in other business areas expected in the coming weeks. Graduate applications close on 26 February 2027. The apprentice package includes 35 days of holiday including bank holidays, a company pension, a health cash plan and an employee assistance programme. Applications are made through British Steel's own vacancies page.
