EDP Lifts Profit Outlook for Third Time as Earnings Rise 22%

Portugal's largest utility, EDP, raised its full-year profit guidance for the third time this year on Friday, after nine-month recurring net profit rose 22% from a year earlier to €1.19 billion. The company now expects recurring net profit of between €1.4 billion and €1.5 billion for 2026, up from the €1.4 billion it forecast in July.
The upgrade was driven by strong earnings from the renewables arm and higher regulatory returns at the group's Iberian networks business. EDP also raised its expectations for 2026 recurring earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation to €5.4 billion, above its previous forecast of €5.3 billion.
EDP Renewables, the world's fourth-largest wind power producer, posted nine-month recurring net profit of €439 million, more than double a year earlier. The company said the third guidance upgrade of the year reflected stronger execution across all of its business segments.
Investors welcomed the update. EDP shares added 1.6% on Friday, bucking a broad sell-off in European markets, while wind power peers Orsted and Nordex also rose. The wider STOXX 600 index fell about 1% on the day as a global rout in technology shares spread to Europe.
The new profit range is worth about $1.6 billion to $1.7 billion at current exchange rates. EDP's third upgrade of 2026 will be read by investors as a sign of confidence heading into the final quarter of the year.
