England began their white-ball tour of Australia with a 92-run win over Western Australia in a one-day warm-up match at the WACA in Perth on Saturday. Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid, both returning to the one-day side, shared seven wickets as the home team were bowled out for 159 chasing 251.
England's batting stutters, then recovers
England were bowled out for 251 in 48 overs after winning the toss. Ben Duckett top-scored with 59, continuing the form that brought him back-to-back centuries in the tri-series in Pakistan, while Harry Brook made 27 and Will Jacks 34. Liam Dawson finished unbeaten on 44 to lift England past 200 after they had slipped to 150 for six. For Western Australia, Brody Couch took four for 47 and Lance Morris three for 29 on his return after 20 months out with a back injury.
Archer and Rashid turn the match
Western Australia reached 60 for one in the 12th over before the wheels came off. Archer, rested for the tri-series in Pakistan, struck with his first wickets back in the side and finished with three for 34 from eight overs. Rashid, overlooked for much of the Pakistan tour in favour of Dawson, took four for 35, and Jamie Overton claimed two for 33 as the hosts were dismissed in 32.3 overs in front of 5,055 fans. Corey Wasley top-scored for the home side with 41, while Cameron Bancroft made 32.
Eyes on the ODI series
England now head to Perth Stadium for the first of three one-day internationals against Australia on Friday 13 November, followed by matches in Adelaide on 15 November and Hobart on 18 November, with five Twenty20 internationals to follow. Fit-again Jacob Bethell was not selected for the warm-up as he continues his return from the knee injury that has kept him out since July.
