Itoje Returns to Captain England Against Australia as Borthwick Names Four Changes

Maro Itoje will return to captain England against Australia at Twickenham on Sunday, head coach Steve Borthwick has announced, in a team featuring four changes from the side that finished the summer tour in Argentina.

England face the Wallabies in the Ella-Mobbs Cup on Sunday 8 November at Allianz Stadium, kicking off at 3.10pm. It is the fourth round of the inaugural Nations Championship and the first of four consecutive home matches for England, who also host Japan and New Zealand later in November before finals weekend from 27 to 29 November.

Captain back after summer rest

Itoje, who has 102 caps, was rested for the summer tour but returns to the second row to lead the side. Fly-half Fin Smith has recovered from a calf injury suffered playing for Northampton a fortnight ago and starts at 10, while George Furbank replaces Marcus Smith at full-back and Ben Curry comes in on the flank for his first cap in 16 months.

Fin Baxter, who has played only twice after a lengthy lay-off, is selected ahead of Ellis Genge at loosehead prop. Jack van Poortvliet starts at scrum-half, with Ben Earl at number eight and Ollie Chessum alongside Itoje in the second row.

Four changes from Argentina

Borthwick made four changes from England's last outing in Argentina in July as his side begin the home phase of their Nations Championship campaign. Uncapped Exeter number eight Greg Fisilau is named among the replacements, with Borthwick opting for a 6-2 split between forwards and backs on the bench.

Vice-captain Jamie George starts at hooker, with Henry Slade and Seb Atkinson in the centres and Tommy Freeman and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso on the wings. All of England's Nations Championship fixtures are broadcast live on ITV1.
