Everton 3-1 Coventry: Barry double sends Toffees into the top five

Everton climbed into the Premier League's top five on Friday night after coming from behind to beat Coventry City 3-1 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Thierno Barry scoring twice and setting up the third.

Coventry, managed by former Everton boss Frank Lampard, took the lead early in the second half when Yann Gboho scored his first goal for the club. But Barry headed Everton level within minutes and then bundled home a second soon afterwards to turn the game around.

Barry takes the game away from Coventry

Barry's second goal survived a VAR check after Coventry claimed he had handled the ball, with officials finding no conclusive angle to show a handball. The striker then turned provider nine minutes from time, sliding a pass through for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to fire home from a tight angle and seal the win.

The result was Everton's third successive victory in all competitions and came in David Moyes' 592nd match in charge of the club, equalling the record set by Harry Catterick. Barry's two goals took his tally to 10 for the season.

What it means for both sides

Everton head into the international break in fifth place, while Coventry remain two points above the relegation zone and could drop into the bottom three by the end of the weekend.

Dewsbury-Hall's goal was a timely response after he was left out of Thomas Tuchel's England squad earlier on Friday. Coventry, meanwhile, will feel hard done by after three big VAR calls went against them on Merseyside, but Lampard's side still sit clear of the bottom three for now.
