Ex-Maths Teacher Jailed Again for Grooming Girls Online

A former maths teacher who posed as a teenage boy online to groom schoolgirls has been sentenced to a further 10 years in prison, on top of the 20-year term he was already serving.
Syed Shahreear Ahmed, 38, of Mossford Lane, Barkingside, was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday 5 November after being found guilty of 37 child sexual abuse offences at a second trial in July.
The offences included rape, sexual assault, sexual communication with a child, meeting a child after grooming, child sexual exploitation and making indecent images of children.
Ahmed, who taught at a secondary school in Essex until he resigned after his arrest in May 2023, used fake identities on social media apps including Wizz, Yubo and Snapchat, posing as a 17-year-old called Miles and using altered photographs of himself to target girls aged between 13 and 16. He arranged meetings with some of his victims and sexually abused them.
The latest convictions followed an investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation team, which found 12 further victims hidden in hundreds of gigabytes of data seized from Ahmed's mobile phones.
The Crown Prosecution Service said the new sentence, 10 years in custody with a three-year extended licence period, will run consecutively to the 20-year term imposed in September 2025.
In total Ahmed has now been convicted of 56 child sexual abuse offences against 18 victims, including 10 counts of rape.
The judge said he would have imposed a life sentence had all the offences been dealt with together, and noted Ahmed had shown no remorse. There was no evidence he abused pupils at the school where he worked.
