Ex-SHO Javed Abro Shot Dead in Karachi, Wife Injured

Former station house officer Inspector Javed Abro was shot dead in Karachi on Sunday, and his wife was seriously injured in the same attack, police and news reports said. The shooting took place in Gulshan-e-Hadeed Phase II, in the Steel Town area of the city.
Abro was taken to Jinnah Hospital after the attack, where he died of his wounds. His wife, who was also hurt in the firing, was taken to the same hospital for treatment. Reports described her injuries as serious.
Unidentified armed men carried out the firing, according to reports of the incident, and fled the scene. Police cordoned off the area and began searching for the attackers, with officers collecting evidence and checking the surrounding streets.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar took notice of the killing and sought a report from the Senior Superintendent of Police for Malir. Police said an investigation was under way and that no motive had yet been established for the attack on the former police officer.
The killing is the latest attack on a police officer in Karachi, a city where officers have repeatedly been targeted in recent years. Police have not yet named any suspects, and they say further details will be shared as the investigation progresses.
