Government Actuary Graduate Trainee Roles Close 8 Nov

By The Daily Byte ·07 Nov 2026 ·2 min read
Government Actuary Department offices Canary Wharf London

The Government Actuary's Department (GAD) is recruiting ten graduate trainee actuaries, with applications closing at 11:55pm on Sunday 8 November 2026. Six of the roles are based in London and four in Edinburgh, and the department's own recruitment page lists both vacancies as closing on 8 November.

GAD sits at the centre of actuarial expertise within government, advising departments on pensions, insurance, risk and long-term financial planning. Trainees work on live government projects while studying towards professional actuarial qualifications, with rotations across the department's teams.

Pay, locations and contract

The roles are permanent, with a salary range of £37,768 to £48,281 and a normal external starting salary of £37,768. The London roles are based at 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf. The posts also carry a Civil Service pension with an employer contribution of 28.97%.

Who can apply and how

Applicants need a minimum 2:2 degree with high mathematical content, and must meet Civil Service nationality and right-to-work requirements. The selection process uses the Civil Service Success Profiles framework, assessing behaviours and technical skills, and includes an online application, online assessment, video interview and an in-person assessment centre in London in the week commencing 25 January 2027.

Vacancies are advertised on the Civil Service Jobs website, linked from the department's GOV.UK recruitment page. With the deadline falling tomorrow night, candidates should apply now rather than waiting until the final hours.
