Grenada's Dickon Mitchell wins landslide second term as NDC takes 14 of 15 seats

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell has won a second consecutive term in Grenada after his National Democratic Congress (NDC) swept to a landslide victory in Thursday's general election, winning 14 of the country's 15 parliamentary seats.
The opposition New National Party (NNP), led by Emmalin Pierre, held on to just one seat, St George North West, won by Adrian Joseph. The result expands the NDC's representation from nine seats to 14, a decisive increase in its parliamentary majority.
A first back-to-back win for the NDC
The victory breaks the NDC's historical pattern of serving only one term in government before losing power, giving the party its first back-to-back win. Mitchell's party first came to power in June 2022, when it defeated the NNP administration led by former Prime Minister Keith Mitchell.
The NDC also dominated the popular vote, receiving about 61 per cent of valid votes cast — 37,369 votes — against about 37 per cent, or 22,567 votes, for the NNP. Voter turnout was reported at about 62 to 63 per cent, with just over 60,000 ballots cast from about 97,000 registered voters.
Opposition leader loses her seat
NNP leader Emmalin Pierre also lost her parliamentary seat in St Andrew South East. The election was preceded by a legal dispute over the voting rights of Grenadians living abroad; on 4 November, High Court Justice Agnes Actie dismissed the challenge, ruling that Mitchell had acted constitutionally in dissolving Parliament.
Provisional results
The results remain provisional, pending official certification and any recount by the Parliamentary Elections Office. Mitchell now begins his second term with a far stronger mandate than the narrow nine-to-six majority he governed with after 2022.
