Court sets 5 November hearing on jail meeting plea

The Islamabad High Court will hear on 5 November a petition seeking permission for a National Dialogue Committee delegation to meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail. Justice Umair Majid Malik will hear the petition together with objections raised by the Registrar's Office, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan report published on 2 November.
Who filed the petition
The petition was filed through senior lawyer Faisal Fareed Chaudhry on behalf of former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, former Sindh governor Imran Ismail, Mahmood Maulvi and Barrister Saif. It names the Secretary of Interior, the Secretary of the Home Department Punjab and the Superintendent of Adiala Jail as respondents. The petitioners say they are concerned about his health and well-being.
What the petitioners are asking for
The petitioners want the court to direct the Adiala Jail superintendent to arrange a meeting between a committee delegation and Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, so their health, welfare and legal protection can be assessed. They say family members, friends and close relatives have not been allowed to meet him for several months, fuelling rumours on social media. They argue the restrictions breach Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution, relevant prison laws and the United Nations Nelson Mandela Rules, and they invoke the Pakistan Prison Rules, 1978.
What happens next
The 5 November hearing will deal with the petition alongside the Registrar's Office objections, so it is a scheduling and admissibility step, not a decision on the meeting itself. No meeting has yet been ordered.
