Gold buyers in India found slightly better prices on Saturday, as rates fell for a second consecutive session ahead of the Diwali festive season. The 24-carat rate stood at approximately Rs 1,38,880 per 10 grams, with 22-carat gold at Rs 1,27,300 and 18-carat gold at Rs 1,04,160, according to Goodreturns figures reported by Jagran Josh.

The 24-carat rate had fallen by around Rs 5,070 per 10 grams over the past two sessions. City prices varied a little, as they usually do, because of local taxes and other charges. Delhi was slightly higher, at Rs 1,39,030 per 10 grams for 24-carat gold, while Mumbai and Chennai matched the headline figure.

What buyers should check

These are indicative rates, not final shop prices. They exclude goods and services tax and making charges, so the amount paid at a jeweller will be higher. Purity matters too: 24-carat gold is purer and often favoured for investment, while 22-carat gold is more commonly used for jewellery because it is more durable.

Silver also eased, with Khel Ja reporting a rate of Rs 2,09,900 per kilogram in several major cities. Reports linked the wider decline to pressure in the international market, including a stronger dollar and steady United States interest rates, rather than to any single local factor.

For anyone buying for the festival, the practical advice in the reports is the same: check the city rate, confirm purity, and ask for the full final cost including tax and making charges before paying, since rates move during the day and differ between sellers.
