Woman, 92, dies after lorry crash in Inverness

A 92-year-old woman has died after a crash involving a lorry in Inverness city centre on Thursday, 29 October 2026. Emergency services were called to Academy Street at around 9.50am, and the woman, who was on foot, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said her next of kin have been made aware.
Academy Street was closed at Crown Road and at the junction with Chapel Street while officers carried out enquiries, and the road reopened at about 5pm after being closed for seven hours. Privacy screens were placed beside a lorry at the scene, and police, fire and ambulance crews attended during the day.
Police appeal for witnesses and footage
Police Scotland said extensive enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of the crash. Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened, and who has not yet spoken to police, to come forward. They are also asking anyone with dashcam footage that could be significant to contact them.
Sgt Calum MacAulay said police thoughts were with the woman who died at what he described as a difficult time. No further details about the woman have been released at this stage, and the cause of the crash has not yet been established.
Road closure and local disruption
The closure affected a busy part of the city centre close to the railway station area, and members of the public were advised to avoid the area while emergency services worked at the scene. Collision investigators attended, and the road remained closed through the afternoon before reopening in the early evening.
