JI says Islamabad march against petroleum levy goes ahead in mid-November

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister's House in Islamabad on Tuesday 27 October 2026. After the meeting, Hafiz Naeem announced the party's long march towards Islamabad against the petroleum levy will go ahead in mid-November and will no longer be postponed, while mobilisation continues nationwide and talks with the government continue.
The gap that remains
JI wants the levy abolished immediately; the government position reported is relief in phases, or gradual elimination. Hafiz Naeem said the Prime Minister sought another 7–10 days to decide. Both sides agreed a joint committee to examine expanding the fuel relief scheme: the government side includes Ahsan Iqbal, Ishaq Dar and Rana Sanaullah, and the JI side includes Liaquat Baloch, per the reporting. The fuel relief scheme was introduced on 17 September for motorcycle, rickshaw and up-to-800cc vehicle owners; reporting puts current coverage at around 12.5 million citizens, with officials expecting it to reach 20 million.
A distinct event
This is a distinct event — a 27 October meeting plus a march announcement — not the 27 October petrol and diesel price-rise story, and the price rise is not restated as the news here. Hafiz Naeem's claim, reported in pre-meeting coverage, that petrol could fall to around Rs225 per litre is a party claim and is not presented here as a verified price.
