The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) is hiring two advisers in its International Advice Team, with closing dates of 15 and 17 November 2026. Both are permanent, full-time roles at Higher Executive Officer (HEO) grade, advertised through the Civil Service Jobs website, and both were verified on the official JNCC careers pages.

The International Biodiversity Adviser, reference 2026067, closes at 23:55 on Tuesday 17 November 2026, and can be based in Peterborough, Aberdeen or Cardiff. The post holder will provide scientific and technical advice to Defra, the devolved administrations and the statutory nature conservation bodies on international biodiversity, working across multilateral environmental agreements including the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, the Convention on Migratory Species and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

The CITES role closes first

The CITES Scientific Adviser, reference 2026068, closes earlier, at 23:55 on Sunday 15 November 2026, and is based in Peterborough. The successful candidate will help deliver scientific advice and evidence to support decision-making on international wildlife trade and biodiversity conservation issues, with a strong understanding of multilateral environmental agreements, particularly the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

The JNCC is the UK government's statutory adviser on nature conservation in the UK and internationally, working at the science-policy interface and advising all four governments of the UK. Applicants apply via Civil Service Jobs, and the JNCC states that it does not provide sponsorship. No salary is stated on the official JNCC vacancy pages, so none is given here.
