Pakistan's benchmark KSE-100 Index closed above 175,000 on Thursday, extending its rally to a fourth straight session, according to TechJuice, as buying spread across banks, cement and other heavyweight sectors.

The index rose 3,366.38 points, or 1.96%, to close at 175,379.86, according to the Pakistan Stock Exchange's official data portal. It touched an intraday high of 176,604.51 and a low of 174,291.25 during the session. A total of 492.78 million shares changed hands, worth Rs37.14 billion.

The gain followed Wednesday's jump of 3,994.62 points to 172,013.48, taking the two-day advance to 7,361 points. The rally has been linked by market watchers to easing geopolitical tensions, falling international oil prices and optimism after the US midterm election results, though no single cause has been confirmed by the exchange.

Broad buying

Investify reported that buying spanned banks, cement and other sectors, while TechJuice described the session as the market's fourth consecutive day of gains. The index reclaimed the 173,000, 174,000, 175,000 and 176,000 levels intraday before profit-taking trimmed the advance into the close.

What to watch

Friday's session is the last trading day before a long weekend — the exchange stays closed on Monday 9 November for Iqbal Day. Traders will watch global crude prices and any fresh statement on Iran, both of which have driven the market's sharp two-day move.
