Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has called for better railway services across the province and the revival of the Landi Kotal Tourist Train. He raised the proposal during a meeting with Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi in Islamabad, where the two sides discussed making the province's rail network more efficient, modern and responsive to public needs.

The meeting reviewed proposals to upgrade railway facilities, improve passenger services and raise the overall quality of rail operations. The two sides also held detailed discussions on restoring the Landi Kotal Tourist Train, which they described as an important initiative to promote tourism, strengthen the local economy and give visitors better travel opportunities.

Mr Kundi said an improved railway system would give people better transport and help trade and tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He described the revival of the tourist train as vital for the region's tourism development.

The proposal builds on a framework agreement between the federal government and the province, which includes a 32-kilometre Jamrud to Landi Kotal safari railway route alongside upgrades to about 240 kilometres of suburban lines. A new 192-kilometre line from Kohat through Thall to Kharlachi is also part of the agreement.

The Khyber train safari previously ran from Peshawar to Landi Kotal through the Khyber Pass in the 1990s, before the route closed in 2006 after flood damage. The meeting also covered the political situation in the province, development work and the need for federal and provincial governments to work together on public issues.
