Leeds Beat Spurs 1-0 After VAR Red-Card Row

Noah Okafor came off the bench to score the only goal as Leeds United beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at Elland Road on Saturday, in a Premier League match dominated by two lengthy VAR checks.
Okafor and Harry Wilson were introduced together in the 77th minute and combined within two minutes. Wilson found Okafor, who went past Rodrigo Bentancur and finished past goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky for the 79th-minute winner.
Two VAR calls in the first half
The first half's talking points both came from the video assistant referee. Leeds felt they should have had a penalty when Mateus Fernandes blocked a cross with his arm, but VAR ruled the ball had struck the top of the arm as he leaned, in what officials call the "green zone", and play continued.
Minutes later, Jayden Bogle caught Mathys Tel on the ankle with his studs. Referee John Brooks did not book Bogle, but VAR Tony Harrington spent around four minutes reviewing the challenge for serious foul play before confirming the on-field decision of no red card. Tel tried to continue but was replaced by Dominic Solanke before half-time.
Spurs' winning run ends
The Premier League's Match Centre later published the VAR explanation, saying there was "a lack of speed going into the challenge" and that Bogle was "stepping into the tackle", classing it as a reckless challenge rather than serious foul play. The decision drew a furious reaction from Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi and from pundits watching the game.
The result ended Spurs' three-match winning run and gave Leeds a valuable three points in front of their home crowd, as the weekend's Matchday 10 fixtures continued.
