New Zealand finally broke through in the five-match T20I series on Friday 30 October, beating India by 87 runs at Eden Park in Auckland. Asked to bat first, the hosts piled up 259 for 7 in their 20 overs — their highest T20I total, and the highest total ever scored against India in the format. India, who had already secured the series by winning the first three matches, were bowled out for 172 for 9 in reply. The series now stands at 3-1 to India, with the final match in Hamilton on 1 November.

Phillips and Bracewell change the game

Glenn Phillips was the central figure, scoring 107 from 49 balls, including six fours and ten sixes. He reached his century in 46 balls after a blistering late surge, including a 32-run over. Michael Bracewell gave him powerful support with 65 from just 25 balls, arriving in the 11th over and striking freely against both pace and spin. Their stand turned a promising platform into a total India never seriously threatened, even on a ground known for favouring chasing sides.

Duffy finishes the job with the ball

India's chase never built momentum. Tilak Varma top-scored with 35, while Naman Dhir made 28, but wickets fell regularly and the required rate climbed out of reach. Jacob Duffy led the bowling with four wickets for 23 runs, and captain Mitchell Santner took two for 24. For India, the margin made it their second-biggest defeat by runs in T20I cricket. For New Zealand, it was a first win of the series — and a statement performance before the finale.
