NTT Docomo suspends online services over suspected unauthorised access

NTT Docomo has suspended its Docomo Online Shop and My docomo online services after finding a high likelihood of unauthorised external access to its servers, Japan's largest mobile carrier said on 5 November. The suspension began at about 01:05 Japan time, and there was no estimate for when services would be restored.
The company said it shut the services down proactively to investigate the incident. The suspension disrupted customer procedures and account management through both platforms. Docomo has not called the incident a confirmed breach, and no details of any data exposure have been disclosed.
A separate network glitch the same day
Separately on the same day, Docomo said some customers across Japan were having trouble making calls and using mobile data from about 11:20am, with the problem affecting customers on its 5G Standalone network. Voice calls, data and SMS were difficult to use nationwide, and mobile virtual network operators using Docomo's network were also affected. Docomo has not linked the network glitch to the suspected unauthorised access, and the two events are reported here as separate incidents.
The company said it was still confirming when the network fault began, its detailed cause and the outlook for restoration, and that the impact on emergency calls was being checked. Customers should check Docomo's official notices for the latest status.
