Oil slips from six-month highs despite continuing Saudi attacks

Oil prices fell on Monday after surging to near six-month highs late last week, although ongoing attacks in Saudi Arabia kept supply concerns in focus. US crude futures were down $1.60, or 1.55%, at $101.67 per barrel by 0018 GMT, while Brent crude futures were down $1.56, or 1.34%, at $115.16, Reuters reported.

Friday's surge, Monday's pullback

Prices had settled nearly $3 higher on Friday after Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia stoked supply concerns. Brent finished the week up 6% and US crude 2.3% higher, so Monday's fall gave back only part of the previous week's gains.

Attacks continued over the weekend, with the Houthis saying they had attacked a Saudi airport and oil facilities on Saturday. Saudi Arabia said on Sunday it had intercepted more missiles and drones. The top oil exporter restarted partial operations at its main airport on Sunday after damage in a previous round of Houthi attacks, even as the militant group vowed to keep targeting the facility.

Why prices stay elevated

Monday's fall was limited because the underlying supply risk has not gone away: Saudi Arabia is the world's top oil exporter, and any threat to its airports and energy infrastructure feeds directly into crude prices.

The prices quoted here are early-Monday snapshots, not closing prices, and they will have moved during the trading day. Readers should treat them as a morning marker of direction, not as a settled daily outcome.
