Petrol and diesel rise again for 29 October

Pakistan's government has raised petrol and diesel prices for Thursday 29 October, reversing the previous day's cut in petrol. Under a Petroleum Division notification issued on Wednesday 28 October, petrol rises by Rs1.85 a litre, from Rs376.06 to Rs377.91, while high-speed diesel rises by Rs1.75, from Rs398.07 to Rs399.82. The division linked the revision to global developments, including movements in Platts rates, premiums and other incidental costs.

Diesel nears Rs400 after fifth straight rise

Diesel has now risen at five consecutive revisions and sits just 18 paisa below Rs400 a litre, a threshold that has become a natural talking point for transporters and household budgets alike. Petrol, by contrast, had fallen by Rs3.19 in the revision for 28 October, so the latest increase only partly reverses that cut. The pattern underlines how quickly pump prices are now moving: Pakistan has shifted to daily revisions, so international market swings reach forecourts within days rather than weeks.

What the increase means for motorists and freight

For most motorists the change is small in isolation, but diesel is the fuel that moves goods, and sustained diesel increases tend to feed through into transport and freight costs. Petrol affects motorcycle and car owners directly, while diesel affects the price of moving almost everything else. The revised rates apply from 29 October until the next daily adjustment, and officials have given no indication that this round is the last in the current run of increases.
