Portugal's ambassador to Pakistan has called for more frequent exchanges of business delegations between the two countries, saying there is untapped trade and investment potential to unlock.

Ambassador Paulo Domingues made the remarks during a meeting with Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Mohammad Zikria Akbar Zia, who called on him at the Portuguese Embassy in Islamabad on 7 November. The ambassador said Pakistan and Portugal had complementary economic strengths and considerable potential to expand their commercial cooperation.

He identified textiles, energy, mining, pharmaceuticals, technology, agriculture, fruit cultivation and innovation as promising sectors for closer ties. Stronger business-to-business engagement, he said, would help turn that potential into concrete opportunities for companies on both sides.

The ambassador also briefed the ICCI president on the Pakistan-Portugal Business Forum, scheduled to be held in Islamabad on 22–23 November 2026, with the participation of Portugal's Minister for Foreign Affairs. The forum is expected to bring together representatives of the two countries' foreign ministries and trade and investment agencies to explore trade, investment and joint ventures.

The forum was first announced in October, when the ambassador addressed the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and said bilateral trade remained well below its potential despite friendly relations. The latest meeting in Islamabad signals a fresh push to build business links ahead of the ministerial visit.
