Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the cancellation of petrol pump licences for stations that refuse subsidised fuel to registered beneficiaries of the Prime Minister's Fuel Relief Programme. The directive was given at a review meeting in Islamabad on Thursday 5 November, according to the Prime Minister's Office account carried by state media.

The meeting was told that 15,519,282 citizens have registered under the scheme so far, including 15.06 million motorcycle owners and 449,000 owners of vehicles with engines of up to 800cc, according to the Prime Minister's Office figure. The Express Tribune reported the small-car figure as 449,800; the difference of 800 has not been explained, and the Prime Minister's Office figure is used here.

Rs28.6 billion paid out so far

Officials told the meeting that 63,153,685 subsidy tokens had been issued and 59,445,347 redeemed, and that Rs28.6 billion had been disbursed as of 4 November. The scheme pays a subsidy of Rs100 per litre, on up to 20 litres a month for two- and three-wheelers and 30 litres a month for cars of up to 800cc.

Separate call centres have been set up for consumers and petrol pump operators to handle complaints. No notification has been published, no stations have been named and no appeal process or timetable has been set out, so the order remains a directive at this stage rather than a recorded enforcement action.
