Putin Not Invited to Manchester G20 Summit in 2027

Vladimir Putin will not be invited to Britain's G20 summit in Manchester next year, Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said.
Mr Burnham gave the one-word answer "No" when asked by The Economist whether the Russian president would be invited to the gathering, which is due to take place in November 2027.
The Economist reported that Mr Burnham said Mr Putin could not and would not be "disinvited" because Russia is a member of the G20, but that the Russian leader "will not be coming because of an outstanding sanction".
Sanctions stand in the way
Britain has imposed sanctions on senior Russian officials since Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and Mr Burnham's office did not comment further on the restrictions when asked.
The two-day summit will bring world leaders, diplomats and thousands of delegates to Manchester Central Convention Centre, in the city at the heart of the region where Mr Burnham was mayor before becoming prime minister.
A contrast with Washington
The position contrasts with that of the United States. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in September that Washington had invited Mr Putin to a G20 meeting in Miami in December.
Next year's summit will be the first time Britain has hosted the annual gathering of the world's largest economies. Manchester was confirmed as the host city earlier this year, with the event expected to be one of the biggest diplomatic occasions the city has staged.
