The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Saim Ayub has been released from Pakistan's men's ODI squad for the remainder of the ongoing home tri-series against England and Sri Lanka.

The announcement was made on Monday 26 October 2026, after the left-handed opener recorded scores of 6, 8 and 7 in his three innings in the tournament. His latest dismissal came during Pakistan's one-wicket win over England in Lahore on Sunday.

A request after talks with the head coach

According to the PCB, Ayub spoke with head coach Mike Hesson about his recent form and asked to return to domestic cricket to work on his batting and rebuild his confidence. The team management and the national selection committee agreed to accept that request.

"Respecting Saim's decision and appreciating his honest assessment of his current form, the team management and national selection committee have mutually agreed to accept this request," the PCB said in its statement.

Farhan named as replacement

The selection committee has named Sahibzada Farhan as Ayub's replacement for the rest of the tri-series. Farhan, the newly appointed T20I captain, was not originally picked in the ODI tri-series squad.

Pakistan have already qualified for the final after winning their first three matches. They were due to face Sri Lanka at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday 27 October, before the final on 31 October.

For Ayub, the move is framed as a short-term reset rather than a final verdict on his international place, with domestic cricket now the route back to form and confidence.
