Wembanyama's 36 lifts Spurs past Jazz 117-111 in OT

Victor Wembanyama posted 36 points and 14 rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the injury-hit Utah Jazz 117-111 in overtime in Salt Lake City on Wednesday. Devin Vassell scored 12 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and the extra period, as San Antonio won its third game in a row.
A short-handed Jazz side, and a decisive run
Utah, which has now lost three straight, refused to fold. Keyonte George scored 31 points, Ace Bailey added 19 and Darryn Peterson contributed 18. George levelled the score at 105 with a left-handed drive with 41.4 seconds left in regulation, and after late misses at both ends, the game went to overtime.
Utah was without Lauri Markkanen (wrist) and Jaren Jackson Jr. (knee), two of its three leading scorers this season, who joined Jusuf Nurkic (toe) on the sideline. There was another scare when Peterson left in the first quarter after a blow to the head on a dunk attempt, his nose bleeding, but he returned to start the second period.
The Jazz led 32-22 after the first quarter and still led by 11 in the second, before Wembanyama, who had 12 points in the second period, pulled San Antonio back to 55-51 at half-time. The third quarter featured seven ties and four lead changes and ended 85-85. In overtime, Brice Sensabaugh hit three-pointers to start and finish the extra session, but San Antonio scored 12 straight points in between to take control. That run, more than any single shot, decided a game Utah had fought hard to keep alive.
