Storm Boelo: scaffolding collapse injures two in London as floods and power cuts hit Britain

Storm Boelo has brought chaos to Britain, injuring two people when scaffolding collapsed in London, cutting power to tens of thousands of homes and flooding coastal towns as gusts reached 84mph. The storm swept in on Saturday night and battered Scotland, northern England and the south through Sunday.
London scaffolding collapse
Two pedestrians were trapped under scaffolding in London after strong winds brought the structure down. Both were rushed to hospital, but their injuries are not believed to be serious. The collapse came hours after a 60-year-old man was killed by a falling tree near Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway, the storm's first fatality in Scotland.
Flooding and power cuts
The Ayrshire town of Largs was left submerged at high tide, with one business owner describing the water as the highest level ever seen there. Irvine and Saltcoats were also left underwater. Flights were cancelled, trains axed and roads closed as torrential rain and high winds hit. The Met Office has warned of gusts above 80mph, with the worst conditions on exposed coasts, and forecasters say there may be only a day to recover before another powerful system sweeps in from the west.
Drivers have been urged to avoid affected routes, and emergency services remain on standby while amber wind warnings stay in place across much of the country into the night.
