Student visa funds rise from 30 November 2026

International students applying for a UK Student visa from 30 November 2026 will need to show higher maintenance funds, under the Home Office's Statement of Changes HC 584, laid before Parliament on 3 September 2026. The monthly maintenance requirement rises from £1,529 to £1,570 for study in London, and from £1,171 to £1,203 for study elsewhere. Because the requirement ordinarily applies for up to nine months, the maximum maintenance evidence rises to £14,130 for a London course, up £369, and £10,827 elsewhere, up £288. The maximum accommodation payment offset rises correspondingly.
What rises, and by how much
The timing matters more than the size of the rise. Applications made before 30 November 2026 are assessed under the rules in force on 29 November 2026, so the old figures apply; applications submitted on or after commencement must meet the new sums, and funding held at the previous threshold may be insufficient. The uplift is 2.7%, aligned with the home student maintenance loan for 2026 to 2027, according to the explanatory memorandum. HC 584 is a staged package, not a single-day change: most provisions took effect on 8 October 2026, religious-worker route changes follow on 29 October, and EU Settlement Scheme identity-document rules change on 9 December.
The date that decides which figures apply
This is general information about a rule change, not personal immigration advice: individual circumstances, deductions and the funds-holding period can change what an applicant must show. Anyone planning to apply should check the official GOV.UK Immigration Rules and the Student route guidance before submitting, as rules change and the figures above apply only to applications on or after 30 November 2026.
