Ten-man Mathare United earned their first win of the FKF Premier League season on Thursday 29 October 2026, beating Tusker 2-1 at Embu Stadium and climbing out of the relegation zone. The result also handed Tusker, known as the Brewers, their first league defeat of the campaign. For a side that had waited all season for a maiden victory, it was a statement result against one of the league's stronger teams, achieved the hard way after going down to ten players in the second half.

A two-goal lead before the break

Mathare, nicknamed the Slum Boys, raced into a 2-0 lead by half-time. Joshua Nyatini opened the scoring around the half-hour mark, and Michael Oduor doubled the advantage against his former club just before the interval. Two goals in a half against a side that had not yet lost this season gave Mathare a cushion, but the game was far from settled, and the second half tested whether they could protect what they had built.

Holding on with ten men

Tusker pulled one back early in the second half through Fabian Adikiny, and Mathare's task grew harder when Michael Mutinda was sent off nine minutes after the restart. Down to ten men and defending a single-goal lead, Mathare held on for the remaining minutes to secure all three points. The win lifts them out of the drop zone, while Tusker must regroup after seeing their unbeaten start ended by a team fighting at the wrong end of the table.
