Who will be offered the jab

The government has accepted advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) on eligibility for the spring 2027 Covid-19 vaccination programme. In the spring 2027 campaign, a vaccination will be offered to adults aged 75 and over, residents of care homes for older adults, and people aged six months and over who are immunosuppressed. The government says these are the same groups eligible for previous spring vaccination programmes.

The JCVI is the independent expert committee that advises the government on vaccination. Its aim for the programme is to prevent serious disease, including hospital admission and death, arising from Covid-19. The committee considered recent epidemiology, vaccine coverage and safety data when forming its advice for autumn 2026 and spring 2027.

Why these groups were chosen

Minister of State for Public Health and Patient Safety Dame Diana Johnson said older adults and people who are immunosuppressed remain at higher risk from Covid-19. She said that, following the expert advice of the JCVI, the government will offer vaccinations to those at the highest risk in spring 2027. The announcement, published on 30 October 2026, settles eligibility well ahead of the campaign so that health services and eligible people can plan.

People who are unsure whether they fall into one of the eligible groups should check official NHS guidance when the campaign opens, rather than relying on summaries. Vaccination timing, booking routes and the vaccine product used will be confirmed closer to the spring campaign.
