Dense Fog to Disrupt Thursday Travel, Met Office Warns

By The Daily Byte ·28 Oct 2026 ·2 min read
Dense fog over a UK road

Dense fog could disrupt travel on Thursday morning after Storms Austen and Boelo, the Met Office has warned, as calmer high pressure brings a greater risk of fog overnight. Forecaster Craig Snell told Sky News that parts of the south and central UK could wake on Thursday 29 October to fairly dense fog patches that will be quite slow to clear.

Central and eastern England could again wake to stubborn fog on Friday 30 October, lingering through much of the morning before brightening, with temperatures around 13 to 15 degrees and up to 16 on the south coast. Drivers are advised not to follow the tail lights of the car in front, as rear lights can give a false sense of security in fog.

After two storms

The fog follows a stormy weekend. Storm Austen brought gusts of up to 79mph on the Isle of Wight, while Storm Boelo brought gusts above 80mph in exposed areas. Three deaths were reported over the weekend: a man in his 20s in London and a 60-year-old man in Scotland were killed by falling trees on Sunday, and a woman in her 50s was pulled from the sea off the Isle of Wight on Monday.
