United States and Mexican customs agencies have completed a joint trade-enforcement operation at the Otay Mesa border crossing, aimed at tackling fraud in shipments moving between the two countries.

The operation, known as Operation Trade Bridge, ran from 19 to 23 October 2026 at the Otay Mesa Cargo Export facility in San Diego. It was carried out by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in San Diego and Mexico's National Customs Agency, the Agencia Nacional de Aduanas de México.

Officers from CBP's Office of Field Operations, its Centers of Excellence and Expertise, and Homeland Security Investigations took part, working in close coordination with Mexican customs officials.

The operation focused on potential trade violations in in-bond shipments moving between the United States and Mexico, particularly high-value electronics and textiles. These are goods where authorities say transshipment, undervaluation and inaccurate origin claims can erode duty revenue and distort legitimate trade.

During the five days, the joint task force offloaded and inspected 80 percent of the targeted shipments. Inspectors found discrepancies in declared values, tariff classifications, merchandise descriptions and country-of-origin information, with several cases still under review by CBP, the Mexican agency and partner agencies.

The two agencies said they had expanded real-time data sharing and plan further joint enforcement actions, with the aim of tightening the detection of customs fraud under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

The operation reflects the two countries' shared commitment to facilitating legitimate cross-border commerce while acting against trade fraud, the agencies said.
