Aldi Recruits 600 Workers for New Automated Distribution Centre in Bardon

Aldi is recruiting 600 new workers at its automated distribution centre in Bardon, Leicestershire, as the supermarket builds up operations at the site over the next year. The roles cover warehouse operations, logistics and transport, including warehouse pickers, warehouse operations assistants and transport assistants, with start dates spread over the coming months. Applications are made through Aldi's recruitment website.
The Bardon centre began operating in May 2026 and is Aldi's first automated distribution centre in the UK. At 1.3 million square feet it is the UK's biggest supermarket distribution centre, built to process up to seven million pallets of stock a year and serve nearly 350 stores at peak capacity. Aldi has invested more than £500 million in the site as part of a £1.6 billion expansion plan.
Pay and long-term careers
Warehouse operations assistants earn from £13.31 to £16.64 an hour, depending on their shift pattern, with competitive pay also available across transport and other operational roles. Jonathan Heaton, managing director of Bardon at Aldi, said the team looks forward to welcoming more people as recruitment continues, and that Aldi is working with local colleges and employment partners to create opportunities across Leicestershire.
Employment minister Andrew Western called the recruitment great news for people across Leicestershire. Aldi is also one of 40 retailers signed up to Opening Shift, a partnership between the government and the British Retail Consortium offering 11,000 work experience placements for people aged 18 to 24.
