Apple Xcode Plugin Brings Claude Code to iPhone Apps

Apple has quietly placed an official Xcode plugin in Anthropic's Claude Code marketplace, giving the AI coding agent a direct route into iPhone and Mac development. Developers can install it with a single command inside Claude Code, and the agent can then build a project, run its tests, render SwiftUI previews and drive simulators and real iPhones.

The marketplace entry lists Apple Inc. as the author, and it was merged into Anthropic's claude-plugins-official repository on 6 November. Apple has issued no press release about the move, so the merged listing itself is the evidence. The install command is /plugin install xcode@claude-plugins-official, and it needs a current version of Xcode on a Mac.

For developers, the practical change is that Claude Code no longer has to work blind. It can read build logs, search Apple's developer documentation and see what an app actually looks like as it is built, then fix problems without the developer constantly switching back to Xcode. The plugin works through the Model Context Protocol, the open standard Anthropic created for connecting AI tools to outside systems.

The move is striking because Apple has historically kept its developer tools tightly controlled. Letting its own plugin sit inside a rival's AI agent marketplace suggests Apple now sees AI coding assistants as part of the everyday workflow for its developers, rather than a threat to it.

Questions remain about how much control developers keep over what the agent can change, and Apple has not yet published detailed support guidance. For now, though, iPhone developers using Claude Code have a new official way to let the agent do the building, testing and previewing while they focus on the code itself.
