Bayern fight back to draw 2-2 with Real Madrid

Bayern Munich recovered from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Real Madrid in the Women's Champions League on Wednesday 28 October, in the third round of matches in the competition's league phase. Real Madrid made the stronger start in Munich and led 2-1 at half-time, but Bayern refused to let the game drift away and levelled early in the second half. The result keeps Real Madrid unbeaten in this season's competition, while Bayern take a point from a match they had looked in danger of losing.
Real strike twice before the break
Real opened the scoring in the seventh minute through Athenea del Castillo and doubled the lead in the 22nd minute when Lineth Beerensteyn headed home. Bayern pulled one back before the interval, with Edna Imade heading in from a Klara Bühl cross in the 31st minute to make it 2-1. That goal changed the mood of the match: Bayern had already threatened through Bühl's delivery from wide areas, and going in only one goal behind gave the home side something to build on after the restart.
Tanikawa completes the comeback
The equaliser arrived in the 52nd minute, when Momoko Tanikawa finished to bring Bayern level at 2-2. Bayern pushed for a winner in the closing stages and went close again late on, including a stop from Real goalkeeper Merle Frohms and a Bayern effort that struck the post in added time, but neither side found a third goal. Both teams therefore leave Munich with a point, and Bayern will take encouragement from a second-half performance that turned a difficult evening into a draw.
