Mbangula hat-trick as Bologna stun Milan 4-2

Bologna beat AC Milan 4-2 at San Siro on Wednesday 28 October in Serie A, ending Milan’s unbeaten league run under coach Ruben Amorim. Samuel Mbangula opened the scoring in the eighth minute, before Alphadjo Cisse scored twice, in the 14th and 27th minutes, to give Milan a 2-1 lead at half-time. The result left Milan fifth on 18 points, while Bologna moved to 11 points, and it gave Amorim a difficult build-up to Saturday’s derby against Inter.

A two-minute turnaround

The match changed quickly after the interval. Davide Bartesaghi scored an own goal on the hour mark to bring Bologna level at 2-2, and Mbangula struck again just two minutes later to put the visitors in front. Milan, who had controlled much of the ball, were unable to regain their shape after that spell, and Bologna kept finding space in attack. The home side had already been stretched by injuries and by resting players ahead of the derby, and the second-half collapse left them seven points off the top of the table.

Mbangula completes his treble

Mbangula completed his hat-trick four minutes from time, finishing a move that left Milan’s defence open and sealing a win that Football Italia described as Bologna’s third consecutive away victory. Cisse’s two goals had briefly put Milan in control, but they were not enough once Bologna’s second-half pressure took hold. Bologna will take confidence from a result built on clinical finishing rather than possession, while Milan must now defend better against Inter on Saturday after conceding four goals at home.
