Bitcoin faces a $2.65 billion options expiry on Friday, hours after sliding below $76,000 as the sell-off in US technology stocks spread through crypto markets.

Options on 33,135 BTC, worth about $2.65 billion, are due to expire at 08:00 UTC on Deribit, according to the exchange's own expiry reminder, reported by KuCoin. The "max pain" price — the level at which the most options expire worthless — sits at $79,000, with a put-call ratio of 0.38. With Bitcoin trading around $76,000, reaching that level would need a notable upward move. Live Deribit data also shows the 6 November expiry at about $2.64 billion notional with max pain at $79,000, corroborating the reminder.

Call-heavy positioning

Open interest is heavily skewed towards calls, with 24,912 call contracts open against only 8,223 puts. The largest call positions sit at strike prices of $82,000 and $85,000. Ethereum options worth about $224.5 million also expire at the same time, with a max pain price of $2,350.

Bitcoin fell 6.29% to $75,369 in early Friday trading, according to market data, extending a slide across digital assets. Ether dropped 8.51% to $2,216.58 and Solana lost 6.74% to $89.06. The fall took Bitcoin to its lowest level in seven weeks and leaves it nearly 40% below its all-time high of around $126,000.

Traders now look to Friday's US October jobs report, due at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time (13:30 GMT), for the next signal on the economy and interest rates. A strong report could reinforce expectations of a December rate rise, while a soft one could ease them. Market moves are not investment advice.
