Bitcoin traded at about $77,400 on the afternoon of Saturday 31 October 2026, roughly 29% below its 31 October 2025 close of $109,556, the highest Halloween price on record. The figure is a live snapshot, so it moves by the minute and differs slightly between exchanges, but price checks on the day put it in the $77,100 to $77,700 range. For scale, the same date in 2010 saw bitcoin change hands for about 19 cents.

A red October for crypto

October 2026 closed against the seasonal expectation that the month usually runs green for crypto. Reports on 31 October put the total crypto market value down by roughly $300 billion over the month. Bitcoin ended the week down about 4.4%, with Ether at about $2,239, Solana at about $95.88 and XRP at about $1.25. One snapshot on the day put the global crypto market capitalisation at $2.7 trillion, with bitcoin at $77,367, up 0.6% on the day, and Ether at $2,241, up 2.2%.

The Binance shock still in the background

The month's sharpest single shock came on 29 October, when Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, said about $6.3 billion of assets had been hit in the largest crypto hack on record. Bitcoin fell sharply after the first alerts. Binance has pledged to cover all losses, and about $3 billion in affected assets was frozen by the exchange and its partners.

What to watch next week

Traders are now watching whether bitcoin can hold above the mid-$70,000s area into the United States midterm elections on 3 November and the October jobs report on 6 November. Neither event guarantees a direction for the price, and the Halloween snapshot is a moment in a fast-moving market, not a forecast.
