Bathgate, West Lothian, in the late evening.

A four-year-old boy has died after a single-vehicle crash near Bathgate in West Lothian, and Police Scotland has launched an appeal for witnesses.

Police received reports of the crash on Drumcross Road, between Limefield Road and Drumcross Farm, near Bathgate, at around 4.30pm on Friday 6 November. The child was a passenger in a black Range Rover.

He was taken by ambulance to St John's Hospital in Livingston, where he died a short time later. The driver, a 28-year-old man, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

Road closed for investigation

The road was closed while police carried out an investigation at the scene. Officers are still working to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

Sergeant Dave Waddell said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the boy who died at this extremely difficult time. Enquiries are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, or has any information that may assist, to contact us if they have not already done so."

He added: "I'd also ask drivers with dash-cams, who were in the area around the time, to review their footage for any images that could assist with our investigation."
