Brewers win first World Series title, beat Rays 4-1

The Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions for the first time in franchise history. They beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, on Wednesday 28 October 2026, closing out the series four games to one.

Misiorowski and Pratt deliver the clincher

The Brewers' only previous trip to the World Series came in 1982, when they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games after leading the series 3-1. This time there was no late collapse.

A team built on depth, not dollars

Young ace Jacob Misiorowski threw five and two-thirds scoreless innings of two-hit ball before leaving with a right calf cramp, departing to a standing ovation with Milwaukee leading 4-0. The bullpen then covered the final four and a third innings without conceding a run, as Tampa Bay's only run came in the ninth. Rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt, aged 22, had two more hits and two runs batted in, setting a World Series rookie record with six consecutive hits across Games 4 and 5 before a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Jackson Chourio set a five-game series record with 11 hits. Catcher William Contreras was named World Series MVP after hitting .381 with four runs batted in across the series, including a sixth-inning double in the clincher that scored Christian Yelich to make it 3-0.

The title capped a dominant October in which Milwaukee went 11-2, including dethroning the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Manager Pat Murphy's side was defined by depth rather than star power, and the clincher followed that script.
