Briton among six killed in Krakow shooting

A British citizen was among the six people killed when a gunman opened fire from a car in Krakow's Main Market Square on Saturday afternoon, Polish police have confirmed.
Four women and two men were killed in the attack, which took place at around 3.30pm local time in the city's historic centre. Three of the victims were Polish, one was British, and two had not yet been identified when police gave their update on Saturday night. Sixteen people were injured, including two police officers and the gunman himself. Eleven of the injured were Polish citizens and five were foreign nationals.
The suspected gunman, a 25-year-old Polish national, remains in hospital in a serious condition after being shot by police. Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski said the man appeared to have been inspired by far-right ideologies. Police exchanged fire with the suspect within minutes of the first reports, and officers say he acted alone.
Three more bodies found at gunman's home
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said three more bodies had been found at the gunman's home in Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski, a city around 150 kilometres from Krakow. Mr Tusk said the bodies were likely to be members of the gunman's family.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham said he was shocked and saddened by the attack, adding that the United Kingdom stands in solidarity with the people of Poland. The Foreign Office is advising British nationals in Krakow to follow the advice of local authorities and monitor local media.
Krakow's mayor, Lukasz Gibala, said the city would remain in official mourning until Wednesday.
