Bushra Bibi Asks IHC for Eye Treatment by Own Doctors

** Bushra Bibi, the wife of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, has approached the Islamabad High Court seeking urgent specialist eye treatment by doctors of her choice. In a miscellaneous application filed on Friday, 7 November, she asked the court to order an immediate examination by an expert ophthalmologist at her own expense, amid concerns over her rapidly deteriorating eyesight.
The application was filed in connection with her pending appeals in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case. It asks the court to direct Adiala jail authorities to submit her complete medical record and a fresh, comprehensive medical report setting out her diagnosis and treatment. She has also sought an immediate consultation with a specialist ophthalmologist alongside the jail medical officer, and treatment at a specialised medical facility outside the prison if needed.
Mature cataract diagnosed
According to the plea, doctors who examined Bushra Bibi diagnosed her with a mature cataract and advised another eye operation around 15 November. Her counsel, Barrister Salman Safdar, told the court in an affidavit that he met the incarcerated couple at Adiala Jail on 2 November and found her wearing very dark glasses because she could not tolerate sunlight or artificial light.
Complaints over jail healthcare
The application also records her dissatisfaction with hygiene standards and the medical treatment provided at Adiala Jail, and asks that her examination and treatment be carried out by doctors of her choice. It refers to a medical report submitted before the Supreme Court in August, which detailed her earlier eye complications and surgery at Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital in Rawalpindi. In January 2025, an accountability court sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years and Bushra Bibi to seven years in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
