China to send envoy as Middle East conflict threatens Red Sea spillover

China will send an envoy to the relevant countries in the near future to help ease tensions in the Middle East, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a daily press conference in Beijing on Tuesday 27 October 2026. Guo said China is highly concerned about conflicts in the Middle East and surrounding regions.
Envoy's stated purpose
The envoy's stated purpose is to strengthen communication with relevant parties, promote contact and dialogue, help ease tensions and prevent the situation from deteriorating further. Guo specifically raised concern about spillover and transmission of the Middle East conflict to the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region. Last week, the foreign ministers of China and Djibouti met in Beijing and agreed that easing Middle East tensions is key to security challenges in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.
What was not announced
No envoy name, destination list or travel dates were announced. None is stated here. The announcement follows Monday's Saudi Arabia–Turkey–Pakistan talks in Tehran and renewed US–Iran tension after US President Donald Trump said last week the US may strike Iran again. Most English-language republications trace to the same Reuters briefing, so this is reported as a single announcement, not as multiple independent confirmations of new detail.
