New Scotland Yard in London, headquarters of the Metropolitan Police.

Counter Terrorism Policing is offering paid 12-month student placements for 2027/28, with applications closing at 23:55 on 15 November 2026.

The placements pay £27,705.60 and are based mainly in West London, with some roles in East Birmingham and occasional travel across the UK. Seven streams are open: borders, strategy, planning and performance; change; communications; corporate services and resources; data and analysis; technology; and the National Counter Terrorism Security Office and interventions.

Students work at the heart of the national counter-terrorism network, supporting teams that cover communications, data and analysis, technology, change, strategy, business support and protective security. The Metropolitan Police says it is looking for curious, motivated and innovative students who want to make a real difference.

Applicants must be undergraduates on a sandwich-year course, returning to study in autumn 2028. The posts involve access to sensitive intelligence material, so applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting at Security Check (enhanced) level, and some posts require British nationality. A confidentiality agreement must be signed on taking up the post.

How to apply

Applications are made through the official police careers portal, with a CV, a personal statement and an online application form. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed, and successful applicants complete identity checks at the Empress State Building in West Brompton, London. The closing date is 15 November 2026.
