Cumberland Council is recruiting two Children's Team Managers for its Support and Protect service, based at West Cumbria House in Workington. The permanent posts are full-time at 37 hours a week, paying £58,760 to £61,151 a year, and applications close on 29 November 2026.

The managers will oversee teams of practitioners within the Children and Families Service, providing oversight, decision-making and supervision so that children, young people and families receive support at the right time.

Who the council is looking for

The council is seeking confident and collaborative leaders with a strong understanding of children's social care, safeguarding and statutory responsibilities. The managers will work closely with partner agencies, carers and communities, and will be expected to lead practice, develop staff and drive improvement across the service.

Applicants are also expected to reflect the council's stated values: ambitious, collaborative, compassionate, empowering and innovative. Candidates should check the post specification for the essential criteria before applying.

Dates, checks and a warning on timing

Interviews are scheduled for the week commencing 14 December 2026. The posts require an Enhanced DBS check with a Children's Barred List check.

One timing warning matters: the council says the role may close early subject to demand, and that it cannot accept applications once the role has closed. Candidates who meet the essential criteria should therefore not wait until the 29 November deadline if they intend to apply, and should use the official Cumberland Council listing to apply.
