Currys Recruits 1,000 Seasonal Workers for Christmas Across the UK and Ireland

Currys is recruiting around 1,000 seasonal retail colleagues across the UK and Ireland, as the technology retailer gears up for its busiest trading period of the year. Vacancies are open now across Currys' 296 stores, with the first colleagues starting from 11 October and contracts running until 2 January 2027. Applications are made through the Currys careers website.

Seasonal colleagues will work on the shop floor and behind the tills, helping customers choose, buy and set up the technology they need over Christmas. Starting pay is £12.71 an hour, rising to £13.96 an hour in London stores. Every new starter completes a two-day virtual induction before their first shift, which Currys says leaves them prepared, confident and connected to the wider business from day one.

A Christmas job that can turn permanent

Almost half of last year's seasonal colleagues were offered a permanent role once the festive period ended — 49 per cent, according to Currys. Caroline Hirst, the retailer's chief people officer, said a Christmas job at Currys can become a career for life, and that almost half of last year's seasonal colleagues are still with the business. Employment minister Andrew Western welcomed the drive, calling it great news for the 1,000 workers set to benefit.

Currys points to the roles as a way into work for young people. Its announcement cites Office for National Statistics figures showing more than a million 16- to 24-year-olds in the UK were not in education, employment or training earlier this year, the highest total in more than a decade. For many of those who join, the company says, the role will be their first experience of paid work.
