The death toll from the collapse of an under-construction building in Delhi's Chawri Bazar has climbed to seven, after rescuers recovered another body from the debris on Sunday, 8 November 2026, officials said.

The latest victim was identified as Luchhuman Mukhiya, 66, a resident of Jakauli village in Darbhanga district, Bihar. His body was taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital for further proceedings, according to IANS.

The three-storey building in Gali Sitara, near Chawri Bazaar Metro station, came down on Thursday, 5 November, after the first alert reached authorities at about 9:50am. A multi-agency rescue operation involving Delhi Police, the National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Fire Services and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was launched immediately. Two bodies were recovered on the day of the collapse and one injured person was taken to hospital.

Most of the victims were migrant workers from Bihar. Rescue teams were still working through the debris more than 70 hours after the collapse, and officials have not ruled out further victims being found.

Police have arrested the building owner, Saimullah, also known as Ayub, along with three contractors named Siraj, Tajuddin and Furkan, who were apprehended in Sirohi village in Faridabad. An FIR dated 5 November has been registered against all four at Hauz Qazi police station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has assured that every effort will be made to evacuate anyone still trapped under the debris. The cause of the collapse is under investigation, with preliminary reports pointing to alleged construction negligence and building work carried out without the necessary approvals.
