East Jakarta Mosque Attack Injures Three at Dawn Prayers

Three worshippers were injured when a man attacked them with bladed weapons during dawn prayers at a mosque in East Jakarta on Sunday, police said. The attack took place at about 4.15am at the Darul Ma'arif Mosque in Pondok Kelapa, Duren Sawit, as worshippers were praying.
East Jakarta Metro Police said a man identified only by the initial F was arrested at the scene and is now in custody at the East Jakarta Metro Police headquarters. Officers seized an axe and a dagger, along with two three-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas cylinders and petrol, which investigators believe the suspect had prepared before the attack.
According to witness accounts reported by Jawawa, worshippers saw a fire in front of the mosque entrance shortly before the attack, and some tried to put it out. Three people inside the mosque were then attacked and suffered slash wounds. Two of the injured were taken to Pondok Kopi Islamic Hospital and one to Harum Hospital for treatment.
Police public relations chief AKP Made Budi said the suspect's motive had not yet been established and the investigation was continuing. Officers are examining whether the attack was planned and whether it had an ideological motive or links to a particular network. "We do not want to speculate. Any conclusions will be based on facts and evidence obtained during the investigation," he said.
Police urged the public to stay calm, avoid provocation and refrain from sharing unverified information about the incident while the investigation continues.
