EU gives €16m aid for Myanmar and Rohingya refugees

The European Union will provide an extra €16 million in humanitarian aid for people affected by the conflict in Myanmar, including Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh.
The European Commission announced the funding on Friday 6 November, saying it would address urgent needs in both countries as conflict escalates, displacement rises and living conditions worsen.
What the money will fund
Inside Myanmar, the assistance will focus on food aid, healthcare and nutrition. In Bangladesh, it will prioritise food security, healthcare and protection services for Rohingya refugees, who remain heavily dependent on humanitarian aid to survive. Around 1.2 million Rohingya refugees live in Bangladesh, many in overcrowded camps, while Myanmar has more than four million internally displaced people.
Part of a larger EU response
The new allocation adds to more than €50 million in EU humanitarian aid provided since January 2026 for the Myanmar crisis and its regional impact across Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and India. Hadja Lahbib, the European Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management, said the funding would help people facing some of the most difficult conditions in the region.
The Commission said the aid would reach communities hit by fighting, food shortages, rising fuel prices and recent flooding. The funding comes as humanitarian agencies warn that needs continue to grow across Myanmar and in the refugee camps in Bangladesh, where newly displaced people keep arriving and services are under growing pressure.
